Brasleton, GA (August 31, 2008) - The team had hopes of adding another podium to the list for the 2008 season at the lovely Road Atlanta course. But when the racing was done, 6th place was where Pegram finished with his Ducati 848. The finish at Road Atlanta puts Pegram in 4th overall in the AMA Formula Xtreme Series with one race left in the series. Pegram is currently just nine points out of third place.
The weekend's practice sessions went well with Pegram in 6th place, with a 1:28.546 on Friday and a 1:28.675 on Saturday. In qualifying he dropped back a spot to 7th with his best qualifying run at 1:28.618. In the race Pegram was able to break into the 27's with a 1:27.777, which was fast enough to give him the 5th fastest lap time.
Pegram moved quickly into 6th place, where he remained for the first four laps. After a red flag and a tire change to a softer compound, he was racing with the pack of riders in 3rd thru 5th place. Three laps from the finish he had to swing wide to avoid Chaz Davies, which cost him a few seconds. For the final three laps he raced at a solid pace to take 6th overall.
"My goal is to win and to consistently be on the podium. We have not achieved that goal during the last few races. The results are in and they are what they are. However, the big win for us this weekend is that we picked up some valuable information about the set-up, which should help us at Laguna in a few weeks. The team has been working hard to find the best set-up at each track with the new Ducati 848. The bike is amazing, it is just that the other teams have stepped it up a few notches and we are playing catch up. I am looking forward to racing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca; I like the track. Last year we finished strong at Laguna Seca with a 2nd place finish," stated Pegram.
The next race is September 27, 2008 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California (www.laguna-seca.com).
